What is Illinois House Bill 1287?
Illinois House Bill 1287 (HB 1287) was signed into law on August 15, 2025, as Public Act 104-0172. The law amended the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act to establish new automated external defibrillator (AED) requirements for covered nursing facilities in Illinois.
Does Illinois HB 1287 require nursing homes to have an AED?
Yes. Public Act 104-0172 requires covered facilities under the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act to have at least one automated external defibrillator (AED) on the facility premises. The law also establishes requirements related to AED oversight, policies and procedures, and CPR/AED training.
When do Illinois nursing homes have to comply with the new AED law?
Facilities subject to the new requirements must comply by January 1, 2030. Nursing facilities can prepare ahead of the deadline by evaluating AED equipment, placement, policies, supplies, and CPR/AED training needs.
