What is BLS Certification?
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is a professional-level CPR course designed for healthcare providers and other individuals who may be responsible for responding to medical emergencies. The course teaches the skills needed to recognize life-threatening emergencies, provide high-quality CPR, use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), relieve choking, and work effectively as part of a resuscitation team.
The American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Provider course is considered the standard certification for many healthcare professions. It is commonly required for nurses, physicians, EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, dental professionals, respiratory therapists, medical assistants, and students entering healthcare programs.
Unlike a standard CPR course intended for the general public, BLS places a greater emphasis on team-based resuscitation, effective ventilation techniques, rapid assessment, and delivering high-quality CPR that improves a patient's chance of survival.
Whether you're beginning a healthcare career, renewing an existing certification, or meeting an employer's requirements, BLS certification provides the knowledge and hands-on practice needed to respond confidently during cardiac arrest and other life-threatening emergencies.
